Print Advertising Series
The Trevor Project is a non–profit organization helping LGBTQ+ youth across the nation. With few to no LGBTQ+ PSA ads in the print world, I was excited to fill a gap in the market and send a message of acceptance with an under utilized medium.
Often, when we think of pride, we see bright rainbows or images of parades and celebrations. When I first started on this project, I knew that I wanted to stray away from expectations, but I wasn't quite sure how. My first attempt, seen below, I decided to subvert expectations by choosing a typography focused design with the pride flag front and center. I attempted to represent the words such as "shines" and "unites" with the flag, but overall the designs felt flat and weren't reaching their full potential conceptually.
Going back to the drawing board, I focused on making the primary word like "pride" or "love" represent the message, while the pride flag would play a subtle yet important role glowing through each design. The final outcome were ads that were much more impactful and intriguing with proper messaging that would speak to the youth that these ads would be targeting.
